The 80-inch screen projection is amazing in a short distance and the fan noise is negligible while you are watching the movie. You can watch movies, do karaoke, stream favorite TV shows, project backdrops for YouTube videos. Don´t expect a great resolution, you get 720p HD (1366 x 768), but this is still good value.

Sony’s Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector, first shown at the IFA show in 2015, is breaking the conventional law that states: all projectors need to be oversized. The LSPX-P1 projector is perfect for someone wanting to a portable space-saving alternative to the traditional wall hanging flat screen. If apartment/condo space is an issue, Sony’s little projector may be the solution.

This portable charge is firstly, movable but not super tiny, another trend that we’re noticing. It’s about the size of a home voice assistant like Google home and weighs around 5 pounds. You can perch it on a table, but you probably can’t carry it in your pocket. There is a battery, which allows you to freely move the device around, and it has enough juice to power a full-length movie.

Not that the display resolution is actually low quality, it produces a surprisingly vibrant and crisp picture from an incredibly short distance from the surface. For example, we decided to watch this season of Game of Thrones on the LSPX-P1 and were able to produce a 72” projection on a blank (light grey, not white) wall from a mere 15” away. Football (or soccer) also looked surprisingly good, as did the video games we tried.

Keep in mind, this little projector isn’t for home theater buffs or video snobs. It’s designed first and foremost for projecting ambient imagery and setting a mood. With that in mind, the companion smartphone app comes pre-loaded with several sets of “posters,” which include slideshows of nature scenery, windows, and a cool weather mode which shows a scene that corresponds to the current weather. You can create and project slideshows of your own images as well.

The Sony LSPX-P1 Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector is a home theater projector designed to provide ultra-high definition video from very close to your external projection surface. This digital projector projects images from 22-in to 80-in thanks to its Ultra Short Throw lens. It’s compact enough to mount just about anywhere – place it by the wall or on the floor or a table.
