The MG28UQ from Asus makes a great addition to the list of affordable Ultra HD monitors. Awesome build quality, nice and sleek design, colors are beautiful, and the pixel density is insane. For fans of 4K gaming, the Asus MG28UQ is a device with no serious flaws and very few minor flaws. We recommend it for casual gamers and non-gaming users in a home or office setting.

Out of the box, the colors are slightly skewed, since the Racing preset provides a somewhat cool hue due to the saturation level’s bias towards the blue color. sRGB mode corrects this by dropping the Delta-E to around 2.5, but one flaw this method presents is it limits the brightness of the screen to 170cd/m2. That is ideal for a balance between comfort and performance, so it might not bother a lot of gamers.

Asus has built the MG28UQ as a fast, powerful and robustly customization-friendly display device with a number of excellent gaming-oriented features, reasonably solid visual performance and a smooth 60Hz refresh rate that’s about par for the course for 4K monitors. In any case, since 4K gaming GPU’s can’t take ultra HD graphics much beyond 60fps anyhow, serious 4K gamers should have a problem with this aspect of this latest ASUS UHD monitor.

The MG28UQ is indeed equipped with the necessary DisplayPort firmware to support adaptive sync over a range of 40-60Hz. This smallish window prevents the use of low framerate compensation (LFC) so you’ll have to adjust your gaming detail, or upgrade your video board, to ensure the action remains above 40fps. We don’t consider this a limitation simply because FreeSync or not, games aren’t much fun to play below that speed.

The MG28UQ isn’t going to win any awards for its rather plain look – for something more snazzy you’ll need to look at the company’s ROG Swift range of monitors. There are also monitors out there with thinner bezels but at this price, you can’t complain too much as there’s a lot on offer.

Despite the screen panel flaw, the ASUS MG28UQ gaming monitor delivers an immersive gaming experience. Its, its resolution of 3840 x 2160 provides incredibly clear texts and sharp, high-quality images. The monitor comes with an AMD FreeSync adaptive syncing technology. It matches the refresh rates of the monitor with that of the graphics unit. Hence, the image tearing and stuttering is eliminated.

The ASUS MG28UQ monitor has many great features worth highlighting. For starters, it comes with a TN Liquid Crystal Display screen that boasts an excellent 1ms response rate. It gets even better. This monitor also has AMD FreeSync. At its peak refresh rate, it provides consistently tear-free visuals when paired with compatible graphics cards.

Unlike most gaming peripherals on shelves, it would be difficult to pick the ASUS MG28UQ out from the lineup as a peripheral made exclusively for “extreme performance”. Save for the red strip of paint outlining the base and two accents on the back, this gaming monitor looks just the same as any other you might see in an office or professional setting.

The MG24UQ utilizes a 4K IPS panel, 4ms response time and 178-degree viewing angles. This is targeted towards consumers who enjoy stunning image quality and yearn for a high pixels per inch display. In contrast to this, the MG28UQ is based on TN technology and has a 1ms response time. While the color gamut isn’t as impressive on TN monitors, they have a quicker response time and better suited towards professional gamers.

Even in games, there is the use of high-resolution, and if you play a game of 3.840 x 2.160 pixels, it is unlikely to want to return to a lower resolution. But you need a powerful graphics card. Due to the rapid panel input lag at ASUS MG28UQ very small. Supports and FreeSync technology, but with a small range of frequencies. In addition, through the OSD you can activate a variety of game functions.

The MG28UQ stand supports tilting, swiveling, and pivoting along with basic height adjustments. This 28-inch 4K UHD monitor also supports a standard 100 x 100 VESA mount. The built-in dual 2 Watt speakers are decent for being built into the monitor but obviously, nothing desired by an audiophile.
